In a significant operation, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) apprehended Obior yohhu uuah Samuel, a notorious drug lord previously linked to attempts of transporting illegal drugs to the UK via Murtala Muhammed International Airport and other channels.
Samuel’s arrest is the highlight of a series of NDLEA’s recent interdiction operations, leading to the seizure of approximately four tons of illicit substances within the past seven days.
This notorious figure came under NDLEA’s radar on September 15, 2023. His involvement was suspected when a 1.500kg stash of skunk, cleverly hidden within flour sacks intended for London, was intercepted at the airport’s SAHCO export facility in Ikeja, Lagos. This led to the arrest of his associate, Nworah Precious, who worked as a freight agent for him.
Unaware that the 1.500kg batch had been detected, Samuel audaciously made another drop-off on September 28. This time, he personally delivered a 2.00kg consignment, discreetly concealed inside cartons, intending to ship it to the UK. During his subsequent interrogation, Samuel divulged his transition from shoe sales in Lagos to the more lucrative and risky world of drug trafficking.
In related operations, NDLEA’s Federal Capital Territory Command halted a container truck, with license plate BD G41 XM, on September 29. The truck, en route from Lagos to Kano, was stopped at Gwagwalada in the FCT. Upon inspection, officers discovered a staggering 1,188 kilograms of skunk concealed under toothpaste cartons, believed to have been loaded in Owo, Ondo State. The truck’s driver, Amafan Fattison, a 28-year-old, was promptly taken into custody.
Further south, in Bayelsa State, NDLEA officials made another significant seizure on September 27. They uncovered 432kgs of the illicit substance in an unattended J5 bus parked along Saipem road in Opolo, Yenagoa. The vehicle was secured for further inquiries.
Lastly, in a surprising turn of events, NDLEA personnel in Kano arrested 70-year-old Ado Unguwa on September 30. Found in Dindere village within Tofa LGA, the elderly man possessed 143.2kgs of skunk, showcasing the vast age range of individuals involved in this illicit trade.
