The University of Ilorin is abuzz with anticipation as its Visitor, President Bola Tinubu, prepares to unveil a series of recently completed projects on October 23. This auspicious occasion coincides with the institution’s 37th and 38th combined convocation ceremonies, making it a momentous event for students and the entire university community.

Mr. Kunle Akogun, the Director of Corporate Affairs at UNILORIN, made this exciting announcement in a statement released on Sunday. His statement not only revealed the unveiling of these projects but also outlined the schedule for the convocation period.

This celebration will span three days, with the main events taking place at the university’s prestigious Main Auditorium. The festivities will kick off on a Friday and culminate on October 23. It’s a time when the collective achievements of students are celebrated, and the fruits of their labor are showcased.

The convocation events will commence with a Special Jumaat Service on Friday, underscoring the university’s commitment to embracing diversity and inclusivity. This will be followed by an Inter-denominational Church Service on Sunday, emphasizing the significance of spirituality and unity within the academic community.

One of the most anticipated highlights of the event is the presentation of a Korean drama titled “Jeong Do-Jeon (The Clash of Power).” This captivating performance will take place at the Performing Arts Theatre of the university, offering a unique cultural experience to the audience.

The academic aspect of the convocation is equally impressive. A distinguished historian, Professor Tayo Falola, based in the United States, will deliver the Convocation Lecture. Professor Falola, who teaches at the Department of History at the University of Texas at Austin, is renowned for his expertise in the field. He will address the audience on the theme, “Modernity, Modernization, and Values,” providing valuable insights into these crucial aspects of contemporary society.

Following the thought-provoking lecture, the graduation ceremony will take place. This ceremony will mark the culmination of the academic journey for the final-year students from both the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic sessions, symbolizing their transition from students to alumni.

The second day of the convocation, aptly named Convocation Day II, will be dedicated to conferring degrees and honors upon the final-year students of four-year and five-year academic programs for the 2021/2022 academic session. It’s a day when their hard work and dedication will be officially recognized and celebrated.

The grand finale of the convocation is scheduled for October 23. This day will witness the graduation of students who completed the six-year programs in both the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic sessions. Additionally, postgraduate students will be part of this momentous occasion, marking the beginning of their new professional and academic endeavors.

As the excitement builds and the countdown to the convocation continues, Mr. Akogun reassures everyone that the university’s authorities are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that all the events proceed smoothly. This commitment to excellence and the celebration of academic achievements offers a sense of hope and optimism for the future, reminding all involved that education is a pathway to progress and success.
