LP Commends Its Elected Members for Exemplary Performance

Labour Party Lauds Its Representatives, Criticizes APGA and Governor Soludo's Governance

by Adenike Adeodun

The Labour Party (LP) has recently expressed commendation for its elected representatives in the National Assembly and other government levels for their outstanding performances. Concurrently, the party levelled criticism at the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, citing their governance as a failure.

According to a report by The Sun, Ugochukwu Emeh, the Anambra State Chairman of LP, released a statement noting that despite undergoing internal restructuring to better face upcoming challenges, the party is gratified by the accomplishments of its elected members. The Labour Party also highlighted the significant support Nigerians showed for its presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, and all candidates in the 2023 general election.

Evaluating the impact of its elected members, the LP stated: “We are proud of their achievements so far… We and the Obidient Family are proud of them. They are true ambassadors of a new Nigeria. We urge them to continue to keep faith. A new Nigeria is still possible with Mr Peter Obi and the Labour Party.”

Turning its attention to the APGA and Governor Soludo, the Labour Party accused them of neglecting the needs of Anambra’s citizens, leading to extreme poverty and mismanagement of resources, such as the diversion of palliatives intended to offset the effects of fuel subsidy removal.

The party particularly praised Dr Tony Nwoye, senator representing Anambra North, for his unique leadership style and vocal stance on state and national issues. Detailing his contributions, LP mentioned his efforts in securing funds for the rehabilitation of key roads in the 2023 supplementary budget, advocacy for road dualization, co-sponsoring a motion on police brutality, and championing equitable ministerial appointments. Furthermore, Dr Nwoye’s motion to honor the late Igbo leader by renaming a federal institution after Prof. Ben Nwabueze was highlighted as a significant step.

Additionally, LP applauded Chief Victor Umeh, senator representing Anambra Central, for his excellent representation, particularly noting his intervention in the demolition of buildings in Lagos and other national issues.

The Labour Party’s statement reflects its confidence in its elected officials and its commitment to advocating for better governance and representation in Nigeria.
