In a significant move within Nigeria’s maritime sector, President Bola Tinubu has announced the appointment of six new executive directors to key positions in the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). Both agencies fall under the purview of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.

The announcement was made by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, in a statement released on Thursday.

At the Nigerian Ports Authority, Vivian Edet has been appointed as the Executive Director responsible for Finance & Administration, while Olalekan Badmus will serve as the Executive Director for Marine & Operations. Ibrahim Umar will take on the role of Executive Director for Engineering & Technical Services.

In a parallel development at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Jibril Abba has been named as the Executive Director of Maritime Labour & Cabotage Services, Chudi Offodile as the Executive Director of Finance and Administration, and Fatai Adeyemi as the Executive Director of Operations.

The President’s decision reflects his unwavering commitment to enhancing the efficiency and performance of these crucial maritime institutions. President Tinubu has entrusted these new appointees with the vital responsibility of facilitating conditions that will significantly boost the contribution of the Marine & Blue Economy sector to Nigeria’s GDP.

Furthermore, President Tinubu’s vision is for these appointments to play a pivotal role in transforming Nigeria’s economy into one that is both labor-intensive and inclusive. This aligns with the overarching goals of the Renewed Hope Agenda, under the guidance of the Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.

These appointments are poised to usher in a new era for Nigeria’s maritime and blue economy sectors, with a focus on fostering growth, innovation, and inclusivity.
