Traditional rulers from Oyo State, spanning the seven political zones, have expressed their solidarity with the state government in its resolute battle against illegal mining. This unified stance was formally declared during a press conference convened in the Governor’s Office press conference room, following a private meeting between Governor Seyi Makinde and the monarchs.

Present at this significant meeting were esteemed traditional leaders, including the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye; the Olubadan of Ibadan, represented by Oba Tajudeen Ajibola; the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Oyebola; the Okere of Saki, Oba Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi; the Onpetu of Ipetu, Oba Sunday Oyediran; the Olu of Igboora, Oba Jimoh Olajide Titiloye; and the Akibio of Ilora, Oba Steven Oyeniyi, among others.

Speaking on behalf of the assembled monarchs, the Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Oba Francis Olusola Alao, conveyed their commendation for Governor Makinde’s swift response to the recent Ibadan explosion. The monarchs also expressed their heartfelt condolences to the victims of this tragic incident.

In light of the Ibadan explosion and the challenges posed by illegal mining in the state, the traditional rulers vowed to bolster their support for the government. This extended commitment encompasses improved communication channels and the sharing of valuable intelligence to effectively combat the scourge of illegal mining.

Oba Alao outlined the specific areas where their support would be directed, including addressing security vulnerabilities and tackling medical and humanitarian issues. He underscored that Governor Makinde had already initiated comprehensive measures to address these critical areas, earning the admiration and gratitude of the traditional council.

“We’ve been able to identify three tracks. The first is the issue of some security lapses and medical and humanitarian challenges. In all these three tracks, the governor has put adequate measures in place to address them,” stated Oba Alao.

Furthermore, he detailed how the governor had been collaborating with the federal government, including the President of Nigeria, to coordinate efforts in response to the Ibadan explosion. Relevant federal agencies have been deployed to partner with the state government to mitigate the damage and provide essential relief.

The traditional rulers affirmed their alignment with the state government’s vision and strategies. Together, they aim to curb illegal mining activities, bolster security, and alleviate the suffering caused by the Ibadan explosion. This united front showcases the resolve of Oyo State’s traditional council to work hand in hand with Governor Makinde towards a safer and more prosperous future for their communities.
