The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has summoned the heads of the electricity distribution and transmission companies operating in the state, and demanded an improvement in the power supply situation in the state. The governor expressed his displeasure over the worsening power outage in the state, which he said was affecting the socio-economic development of the state.

The governor’ met with the representatives of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) at the Government House in Ibadan on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. He said that the state government was ready to partner with the electricity companies to address the power challenges in the state, but he also warned that he would not tolerate any excuses or inefficiency from them.

He said that the state government had invested in some power projects, such as the Oyo State Independent Power Plant, the Oyo State Rural Electrification Board, and the Oyo State Power Intervention Fund, to boost the power generation and distribution in the state. He said that the state government was also willing to provide land and security for the electricity companies to install more transformers and substations in the state.

He said that the state government expected the electricity companies to reciprocate the gesture by providing quality and reliable power supply to the people and businesses in the state. He said that the state government would not hesitate to revoke the licenses of the electricity companies if they failed to meet their obligations and deliver on their promises.

He said that the state government was committed to improving the living standards and economic opportunities of the people of the state, and that adequate and stable power supply was essential for achieving that goal. He said that the state government would continue to monitor and evaluate the performance of the electricity companies, and hold them accountable for any lapses or shortcomings.
