In a response to intelligence reports warning of potential threats during the Easter period in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has initiated a comprehensive security operation. Commandant Olusola Odumosu, heading the FCT Command, announced the deployment of 5,230 personnel aimed at ensuring the safety and security of residents throughout the festive season. This move underscores the NSCDC’s commitment to maintaining peace and preventing any disruption during a time traditionally marked by communal gatherings and religious observances.

The announcement, made during a briefing with principal officers in Abuja, highlighted the NSCDC’s strategic approach to counter the anticipated threats. Commandant Odumosu outlined that the deployment includes covert personnel tasked with surveillance and intelligence gathering across the FCT. This proactive measure is designed to detect and thwart any planned activities that could compromise public safety.

In addition to surveillance efforts, the NSCDC has mobilized its elite units for this crucial period. These include the Armed Squad, Female Strike Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Special Crack Squad (operation Adaka-su), and Agro Rangers. Each unit is specialized in various aspects of security and emergency response, ensuring a comprehensive coverage across the spectrum of potential risks.

Commandant Odumosu emphasized the importance of operational discipline among the deployed personnel. He cautioned against overzealousness and carelessness, stressing that the primary mission is to safeguard lives and property without infringing on the rights of the FCT residents. The adherence to operational orders and respect for the community are paramount to the success of this security initiative.

In his statement, Odumosu reassured the FCT residents of the NSCDC’s dedication to their safety during the Easter celebrations. Security measures will extend to places of worship, recreational centers, markets, shopping malls, motor parks, and other critical points. This extensive security coverage is aimed at enabling residents to partake in holiday festivities without fear of violence or disruption.

Furthermore, the NSCDC commandant issued a stern warning to potential troublemakers, vandals, and individuals aiming to undermine public safety or target critical national assets. The corps is prepared to enforce the law rigorously against anyone engaging in activities that pose a threat to the community’s well-being.

As the FCT prepares to commemorate the Easter holiday, reflecting on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Commandant Odumosu extended his felicitations to the Christian community. He encouraged all residents, regardless of their faith, to embrace the values exemplified by Christ’s life, such as peace, love, and sacrifice. This message not only resonates with the spiritual significance of Easter but also reinforces the broader commitment to communal harmony and mutual respect.

This unprecedented security operation by the NSCDC in the FCT is a testament to the government’s resolve to ensure the safety of its citizens during significant national and religious celebrations. As residents of Abuja and its environs prepare to observe Easter, the NSCDC’s efforts offer reassurance that the state apparatus is vigilantly working to preserve the peace and enable the free exercise of religious and social activities during this sacred time.
