The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified its fight against illegal oil refining activities in the Niger Delta region. In a recent operation conducted between June 18th and 22nd, 2024, the Air Component of Operation Delta Safe successfully destroyed 13 illegal refining sites across Rivers, Bayelsa, and Imo states. Additionally, the operation targeted logistical networks used by oil thieves, leading to the destruction of seven Cotonou boats and the dispersal of several J-5 buses suspected of being involved in crude oil siphoning.

Nigerian Air Force spokesperson Air Vice Marshall Edward Gabkwet released a statement detailing the operation’s success. Furthermore, gunboats used by the oil thieves for transportation and security were also destroyed in the airstrike.
