Wike Vows to Stand Ground Against PDP ‘Vampires’

FCT Minister Resolves to Stay in PDP Despite Internal Crisis

by Victor Adetimilehin

In a bold declaration, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has affirmed his commitment to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite ongoing internal strife. Wike, who previously served as the governor of Rivers State, made this statement during a press conference in Abuja, where he marked his first anniversary as FCT minister.

Wike dismissed any notion of abandoning the PDP amid its challenges, expressing his resolve to “fight it out” within the party. “I do not run from any fight. I will stay there; I will fight it out. Who am I going to run from? The vampires?” he stated emphatically.

Defiance Amid Party Turmoil

Wike’s statement comes at a time when the PDP faces significant internal discord, both within Rivers State and at the national level. Rumors of his possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) have circulated, especially given his past criticisms of the PDP’s presidential candidate during the 2023 elections. However, Wike clarified his stance, emphasizing that his loyalty to the party remains firm.

He pointed out that, despite his disagreements with the PDP’s leadership, he delivered electoral victories in Rivers State. “Anybody who knows me knows too well if I want to join APC today; when I was in the PDP, didn’t I say that I would not support your presidential candidate? Did I do it secretly? People should know you for something. Integrity is very important,” Wike remarked.

Political Integrity and Future Moves

Wike’s tenure as FCT minister has been marked by his outspoken nature and commitment to political principles. He has consistently advocated for transparency and integrity within the PDP, even as the party navigates through internal conflicts. His refusal to endorse the PDP’s presidential candidate in 2023 was a significant move, underscoring his belief in standing by his principles.

Despite the challenges, Wike remains a pivotal figure within the PDP, with his actions and statements closely watched by both supporters and opponents. His decision to remain within the party, rather than seeking refuge in another political platform, signals his determination to shape its future from within.

Wike’s comments during the media parley reflect his broader approach to politics—one that prioritizes integrity and a willingness to confront issues head-on. As the PDP continues to navigate its internal challenges, Wike’s role will undoubtedly be crucial in determining the party’s direction in the coming months.
