Lagos Community in Shock as Prince Demola Akinloye is Murdered

by Victor Adetimilehin

The Ajiran community in the Agungi area of Lekki, Lagos State, is reeling after the violent killing of Prince Demola Akinloye, son of the Ojomu of Ajiran land, Tijani Akinloye. The 50-year-old prince was attacked and killed on Monday morning by a group of armed men along Chevron Drive, near Ebano Supermarket.

Local sources, who spoke under anonymity due to the sensitivity of the incident, revealed that Demola Akinloye was driving his black Toyota Corolla when he was ambushed by four assailants. The attackers, who were reportedly traveling in a white minibus, shot and stabbed the prince multiple times, leaving the community in shock and fear.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the incident. In a statement, he detailed that the scene had been investigated, and evidence, including an expanded cartridge, was collected. The prince’s body was taken to a morgue for autopsy, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID) in Panti, Yaba, for further investigation.

Residents are now on edge, with many choosing to avoid the Chevron, Agungi, and Ajiran areas.  However, Estate management in the vicinity has issued warnings to residents, urging them to steer clear of the crime scene for their safety.

Community Reaction and Police Response

The violent killing of Prince Demola Akinloye has created a ripple of fear across the Ajiran community. The killing, described as both a shooting and stabbing, has raised serious concerns about safety and security in the area.  Moreover, residents have started deserting their homes, worried that the attackers could strike again.

A statement released by local estate management urged all residents to avoid the Chevron Drive and surrounding areas to ensure their safety. “We plead with all our esteemed residents to stay away from Chevron, Agungi, and Ajiran for now,” the statement read.

In response to the escalating tension, the Lagos State Police Command has ramped up its presence in the area. Officers are patrolling key points, and the investigation has been expedited. “The case will be transferred to SCIID Panti, Yaba, for further investigation,” Benjamin Hundeyin stated, emphasizing the urgency and seriousness with which the police are handling the matter.

Investigation Underway Amid Heightened Security Concerns

As the police continue their investigation, many questions remain about the motive behind the killing of Prince Demola Akinloye. The attackers seemed to have targeted him specifically, given the nature of the assault. The police have yet to release information on any suspects or possible leads.

The community is looking for answers and assurance of safety. The Lagos State Police Command has promised to uncover the truth behind the prince’s assassination. “Our team is working tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Hundeyin said, appealing to the public for any information that could assist in the investigation.

While the Ajiran community grapples with the fear and uncertainty left in the wake of this violent act, the local authorities are determined to restore peace and order. However, the road to recovery will be challenging as residents and officials work together to prevent further violence and bring those responsible to justice.
