NCoS Guarantee Inmate’s Security During Floods at Maiduguri Facility

Nigerian Correctional Service relocates inmates, says there is no cause for alarm, following widespread flooding.

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) says it has put in place a contingency plan after a flood hit the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Maiduguri, Borno State severely.

The flooding was due to the overflow and collapse of the Alau Dam located in Konduga Local Government Area; – most of the city was submerged as well as the safety of the inmates of the facility.

In the same respect, the NCoS has been removing the inmates to other safer places while at the same time enhancing stability in the prison.

When contacted on Tuesday, the NCoS spokesperson, Umar Abubakar, said that the service has been in touch with security and emergency agencies to ensure the proper implementation of the evacuation strategy.

NCoS has sought to assure the public that every measure is being made in order to protect both the prisoners and the neighborhood.

The smooth operations ensure the collaboration with security agencies

The NCoS has thanked the Presidency and the Vice President Kashim Shettima, who moved personally to Maiduguri to have firsthand information on the effect of the flooding.

Through their participation, they have assisted in the fast-tracking of evaluation hence enabling the NCoS to effectively mobilise resource and coordinate with other related security organisations.

Accoring to a report by The Punch, Contrary to earlier reports suggesting that the exercise may be delayed, Abubakar said officers and personnel are on shift to ensure the exercise is effectively and securely effected.
