Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the Minister for Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, said they were devastated at the demise of Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran who passed on after a brief illness.
Both of them mourned the departed monarch as a man who was supportive of the general development and the father figure of Ijesa people, and the development of Ijesaland and Osun state in particular.
Governor Adeleke while sending a condolence message on the passing of the Kabiyesi said, “The late Oba was a selfless father who always cared for the people. His contribution towards the promotion of good governance and development cannot be understated”.
Similarly, the immediate past governor of the state, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola reacting through his media aide Ismaila Omipidan said the late monarch was a man of integrity and a true-born coward.
Oyetola said: “Kabiyesi’s life was wholly committed to worship and providing for the welfare of people, his reign begat a lot of development not only in Ijesaland but in the other parts of the world as well.”
Owa-in-Council declares seven day mourning period
There is a seven-day prohibition of festivities in Ijesaland to mourn the death of the foremost traditional ruler of Ijesaland Oba Aromolaran, as well there is curfew at night from 10 pm to 6 am. The council also said all markets in Ijesaland would be closed for three days after the council meeting held in Ilesa.
Ogboni of Ipole Ijesa, Oba Oyegbade Oyeleye said, “Our king held his jurisdiction in the whole of Ijesaland and this period of mourning is to honor his 42 years of reign which was selflessly given.”
There will be a curtail of movement as the palaces enforce a seven-day curfew in a turnout of several local government areas such as Ilesa West, Ilesa East, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Oriade, and Obokun in a show of the monarch’s honor. Ogoga of Ijebu Ile, Oba Aromolaran ruled Ijebu Ile kingdom for more than forty years and was noted to have brought several development to the region: because this region experienced infrastructural developments as well as an improvement in cultural degradation during the reign of this king.
The late monarch was committed to being a servant leader to his people and humanity as a whole and this will always be remembered in Ijesaland. It is a sad that he is gone, and this leaves a big vacuum, but his wisdom will help the future of the region.
