The Federal Government has declared Monday September 16, 2024, a public holiday in the celebration of eid –ul- mawlid, which is the anniversary from the birth of the prophet Muhammad.
This was stated by Dr. Magdalene Ajani the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Interior in a statement made to the press. This was said on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria by the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who also felicitated with the Muslim Ummah both in Nigeria and in the globe.
Eid-ul-Mawlid is a special occasion that holds a lot of importance to the Muslim by around the globe and this public holiday enables citizens of Nigeria, especially the Muslims to enjoy the true spirit of this birthday celebration of the Prophet.
In his remarks, the Minister of State for Health, Dr Tunji-Ojo urged the citizens of Nigeria to ponder on values of patience, sacrifice and perseverance. “This occasion is a reminder to all Nigerians to foster these values especially in times of adversity,” the minister said.

During his message, Dr. Tunji-Ojo had to stress on the values that have to be followed according to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad and call for unity and tolerance between different regions in Nigeria.
According to Channels “This year’s Eid-ul-Mawlid is also a time to foster peace and perseverance in the society as well as working hard towards construction of a better nation,” he said.
Muslims in the country will be observant of the day alongside other Muslims from across the world since the day is all about providing salvation as it marks a time and period of worship and unity among members of the society.
The Federal Government through the proclamation of the holiday was able to affirm its acknowledgement of religious occasions while at the same time encouraging the citizens to embrace and practice patience, sacrifice as well as building the society during the time of celebration.
