Upholding human rights in the Nigerian military

The event has brought back to the forefront the issues of human rights violations and military responsibility in Nigeria.

There have been increasing demands for accountability and change in the Nigerian Army in the recent past especially on how military officials deal with the civilian population and ex-military personnel.

This case is a good example of the fact that there should be no complacency in the fight against such actions within the ranks.

The Nigerian Army, which is an important arm in the defense of the nation’s security, has restated its commitment to ensuring that all its personnel display the highest level of professionalism.

While the investigation of the viral video is still ongoing, there is hope that justice will be done to the victim as well as to the public who have a right to be informed about the actions of the armed forces.

The Nigerian Army’s quick intervention provides a faint light at the end of the tunnel that the institution is still willing to fight misconduct within its personnel and for human rights.

This case is a good example of the fact that discipline and human dignity are the key principles that should be followed by any military.

As Nigeria goes on to face its security issues, it will be important to ensure that the army upholds these principles as a way of gaining the trust of the people.
