- Plateau APC given alert over plan by anti-party formation to cause unrest prior to October 9 polls.
- Some members of the foundation accused of seeking to cause a split in the party.
- Party must insist on the stability of its fold and reject the many fictions.
The Plateau State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed the fears of some of the party members in the state with intentions of sowing seed of discord ahead the scheduled local government elections billed for October 9, 2024.
On Monday, the Party’s Acting Publicity Secretary, Shittu Bamaiyi said the group claiming to be the “foundation members” of the APC has been planning to cause confusion within the party.
From the information given by Bamaiyi, the group intends to employ some of the media instruments to disseminate wrong information about the goings-on in the party.
‘Foundation members’, this name has some undertone of mischief because there are no graduations in membership in the APC, this group looks like it was encouraged to instigate disturbances and undermine the capacities of the party for the conduct of the local government elections”, Bamaiyi stated.
Political defections and intraparty wars remain a major challenge to the stability of APC
The statement of Bamaiyi comes at a time when the PDP in Plateau particularly Kanam Local Government Area has witnessed massive decamping from the APC.
Some of the big names who have defected recently include Dyabbu Garga, a two term commissioner and one time LGA chairman and Saleh Yipmong, a former deputy speaker of the state assembly.
Bamaiyi then pointed out that the group’s activities are quite suspicious especially given the fact that the local elections are just around the corner.
“Based on intelligence that we have received it has become very clear that the main aim of the group is to cause chaos within the party and thus leading to the APC struggling to effectively campaign for the elections,” he said.
According to Vanguard, Bamaiyi called on the supporters to stay put and not to be distracted by whatever news the group was bringing out to the public, as according to him they were out to frustrate the party in the exercise leading to the elections.
