The AIG in charge of Zone 2, Onikan, Adegoke Fayoade has however said that the police are still investigating the rape allegation levelled against a policeman in Lagos.
Fayoade, who was recently promoted to AIG stated that the public should be rest assured that the case under reference which involved a 17 year old girl at the Aria H Command Ogudu Lagos would not be treated with a light palate.
In the same month of July, police authority of Lagos State arrested the officer at the light of this allegation; however, the identity of the officer has been hidden from the public.
Speaking to journalists at a symposium held by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (LDSVA) in Ikeja, Fayoade said it is prohibited in the police force.
“When we have such issues, we do not hesitate to extradite our own; whatever measures are required are given so that justice is meted,” he said.
Court-martial proceedings awaited for accused officer
According to The Punch, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi of the LDSVA executive secretary also confirmed that the case is still under investigation and that the officer in question is a police officer that is thereby subjected to a court-martial process as per the law.
However, Vivour-Adeniyi said that as police officer, the suspect has to be court-martialed before being released to a criminal court. She further echoed on the value ut being placed in prevention to try and keep women out of those risky conditions.
The police and LDSVA re affirmed their stand on victim parade and or seeking justice for the victim, they also stressed the importance of prevention mechanisms for domestic and sexual violence in the state.
