The ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina escalates as the Tsauri A Ward Chairman, Danjume Abubakar, is suspended following his involvement in the disputed suspension of the party’s former National Secretary, Senator Umar Tsauri.
Abubakar’s suspension was announced during a press briefing by the Ward Secretary, Abdullahi Garba, in Katsina.
Garba accused the chairman of deceiving party members into endorsing a suspension letter against Senator Tsauri without their consent, stating that Abubakar had collected their signatures under pretenses.
Deception and suspension fallout
According to Garba, the chairman had summoned a meeting, asking members to provide their names, phone numbers, and signatures under the guise of official documentation.
It was later discovered that these details were attached to a letter announcing the suspension of Senator Tsauri for alleged anti-party activities and circulated on social media.
“The chairman gave us N20,000 each after collecting our signatures, but we did not know he would use them for a suspension letter against Senator Tsauri,” Garba stated during the press briefing.
As reported by Daily Post, Garba further explained that the ward members were unaware of any suspension plans, and they have now passed a vote of no confidence in Abubakar for his actions. “As far as we are concerned, we are not part of that suspension,” he added.
Internal conflicts within the PDP
The PDP’s internal issues in Katsina have worsened following Senator Tsauri’s suspension. The party’s state Public Relations Officer II, Lawal Audi, confirmed that a query has been sent to the party’s leadership regarding the senator’s suspension.
Audi further noted that Senator Tsauri is expected to appear before a disciplinary committee to address the accusations leveled against him.
This hearing is aimed at ensuring due process and offering the senator a fair chance to defend himself against the charges.
In response, Senator Tsauri maintained that he had not received any official notification regarding his suspension and only learned about it through social media. He dismissed the suspension as the work of individuals he deemed “unrecognized” by the party.
“PDP has laid down procedures, and before any member is suspended, the proper processes must be followed,” Senator Tsauri remarked, reaffirming his stance that no formal communication had been made to him.
