The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) which is an anti-corruption commission in Nigeria has plans to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in the fight against corruption.
According to The Punch, The Chairman of ICPC, Dr. Musa Aliyu revealed this on Thursday during the National Anti-Corruption Coalition (NACC) Interactive Forum which held in Abuja.
Aliyu further said that by incorporating the use of AI and other technological features, processes of identifying and eradicating corrupt practices would be made easier.
In the last one day operation, the ICPC recovered N4 billion stolen public funds, it is a breakthrough for the commission. “I was astonished at how much money is being taken out of public coffers to line private pockets but when it comes to technology we are making progress,” he said.
Application of AI in transparency with a bid to eliminate corruption
During his speech, the ICPC chairman noted benefits of the new technology especially in the aspect of enhancing transparency in spending, minimizing inflation of contracts and enhancing integrity in procurement.
“What we require for now is to fashion out ways that would eliminate corruption and enhance ethical leadership,” he further said.
Aliyu also urged the senators to pass the Whistle Blowing Act which is aimed at giving the whistleblower the protection they need when they blow the lid on corrupt practices.
