Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and former presidential aspirant, Chief Dele Momodu, has expressed his astonishment at Nigerians who expected the All Progressives Congress (APC) to lose the recent Edo governorship election.
Surprised by expectations
In a WhatsApp message to a correspondent, Momodu stated that it was “practically impossible” for the APC to lose the election, given the political environment.
According to Vanguard, he went on to claim that many of the principal actors in both the APC and PDP are engaged in what he described as “gangsterism.”
“I’m flabbergasted that some Nigerians still expect APC to lose this particular election. It is practically impossible, and I’m ready to place a modest bet on it,” he said.
Criticism of political ‘gangsterism’
Momodu suggested that key figures within the APC and PDP, including those close to Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, are deeply involved in manipulative political practices.
He referred to a special operation, “Oga wants it,” and expressed his disappointment in those advising the governor.
“I will be very disappointed if my governor and brother, Godwin Obaseki, is unaware of a special operation codenamed Oga wants it. Most of the principal state actors, both in APC and PDP, are involved in gangsterism,” Momodu added.
He also remarked that the collaboration between the two political camps appeared to be a “marriage of convenience,” with many politicians aiming to secure their future political ambitions, whether within APC or PDP.
Power dynamics and political ambitions
Momodu described the political landscape as driven by individuals desperate to maintain power, particularly those in their second terms who are wary of experiencing the same fate as Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
He referred to them as being part of a “Mafia Don” group, with aspirations linked to securing a future presidential run, depending on the political climate.
“The permutation is that if for whatever reason OGA is not able to run, then the Mafia Don will have PDP in reserve since APC has a preponderance of would-be competitors. Even within the Mafia group, there are still some lily-livered members who have suppressed their own presidential and vice-presidential ambitions out of mortal fear for their rambunctious leader,” Momodu concluded.
