The fight which the police said erupted resulted from a misunderstanding between Inspector Bulama, 38 of the Police Mobile Force 41 division and Abdulmalik Dauda 39 of Pompomari Ward, Damaturu. The arguments turned to a fight; during the fight session, Bulama allegedly attacked and cleft Dauda’s chest with a sharp object inflicting severe injuries on him.

Police investigation underway

After the incidence, Bulama ran to the ‘C’ Divisional Police Headquarters where Bulama was arrested. The state CID has since assumed operation of the case, while Inspector Bulama stays detained for internal reprimand and legal proceedings.

Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Garba Ahmed, also described Bulama’s action as reprehensible and condemned it in its entirety.” He told the people of Yobe that he would allow an investigation to be conducted to the fullest extent and that it would be done quickly. Speaking to the matter, the Nigeria Police Force Aster charges that the force will not condone any act of misconduct from its personnel. We will see to it that the law is taken and the culprit face his or her consequences,” Ahmed said.

According to The Punch, Speaking on its professionalism, the Commissioner stressed, that any police officer who was accused of illegality stood to face the legal consequences.  Also, Ahmed reassured the Force’s intention to continue to uphold accountability and  transparency as a means of ensuring the public trust.

In addition, the case has attracted much attention focusing  on the issues of police misconduct and holding the police officer to accountability. In addition, the police have said that this investigation is still going on and that all that is being gathered will be made public in order to ensure justice for the man who lost his life.
