Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa has inaugurated a N73,000 minimum wage for public workers in the state, above the newly approved N70,000 federal minimum wage.
The announcement was at the launch of the gubernatorial campaign in the Ondo Central Senatorial District in readiness for Ondo state’s November 16 election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking to supporters in Ondo City, Aiyedatiwa urged them to translate their support for the APC into votes so that developmental projects in the state could continue. Governor said ‘I urge that everyone present or not present here today converts your support into votes for the APC to ensure that our progress continues in the state’.
Agricultural, health and infrastructure achievements
In the course of his tenure, the governor spoke of his administration’s achievement in agriculture, education, healthcare and rural development. Additionally Aiyedatiwa said the over 1billion naira earmarked for land clearing as well as several rural roads under construction in support of farmers and for productivity improvement.
He reiterated his administration’s promise to improve healthcare including increasing doctors’ salaries and allowances in a bid to reduce the trend of professionals leaving the state popularly known as the ‘Japa’ syndrome.
The governor added that ‘we have also ensured timely payment of salaries, funded WAEC fees for public schools and initiated key infrastructure life-line project across the state.’
APC leaders in Ondo state have backed Emmanuel Aiyedatiwa for governor
APC State Chairman Ade Adetimehin while at the event called on party members to protect their voter card and make sure there is high voter turnout. Aiyedatiwa had also shown commitment to infrastructural development and had called on the supporters to work towards party’s winning of the coming election, he added.
Furthermore, Hon Abiola Makinde, Campaign Director-General and member of House of Representative, described Aiyedatiwa as a reliable leader, calling on his supporters to mobilize their people at the grassroots to vote for Aiyedatiwa.
Former governorship aspirant Chief Olusola Oke and Commissioner for Women Affairs Mrs. Lola Fagbemi mentioned specifically the governor’s efforts in road rehabilitation, funding of education and security.
According to Vanguard, Former PDP gubernatorial, Hon. Kolade Akinjo, who recently announced his defection to the APC, attributed his move to that of the leadership style and achievement of Aiyedatiwa, and asked party members to deliver victory for the party in November.
To wind up, the governor reiterated his commitment to improving the lives of Ondo people, and called on supporters to vote for continuity and keep the state’s progress going beyond 2024.
