Alhaji Musliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has been voted as the new national president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Southwest Zone.
Delegates from Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti states participated fully in the election, which was held during the quadrennial delegate conference at the union’s zonal secretariat in Osogbo, Osun state.
Southwest delegates gather to elect a union president
Under Oluomo’s direction, the NURTW hopes to strengthen its dedication to solidarity, stability, and the well-being of its members, making this leadership election a momentous occasion. Acting national president Aliyu Issa-Ore, who was watching the delegate conference, noted that the Southwest Zone has the right to pick the national president during this cycle under the NURTW constitution. In order to allow the elected candidate to take on the national role, Issa-Ore stressed that the conference carefully followed constitutional procedures.
According to Vanguard, during the election process, Mrs Adedamola Salam, the head of finance at the NURTW national headquarters in Abuja, represented the headquarters. Salam attested to the Southwest Zone’s complete conformance with the NURTW’s constitutional requirements, guaranteeing an impartial and open election of Oluomo as president.
In addition to electing Oluomo, delegates also selected Akeem Adeosun as a trustee from the Southwest Zone and Tajudeen Agbede as vice president. Agbede and Adeosun both stated that they are prepared to back Oluomo’s plans for the union and strive to make it more devoted to its members.
MC Oluomo pledges to unify NURTW members
Oluomo emphasized his commitment to the organization’s stability and general well-being in his remarks after taking the oath of office, calling on all union members to embrace peace and harmony. Oluomo said, “I hope those I may have offended will forgive me as well. I have forgiven everyone who has wronged me.” We must all be dedicated to upholding the integrity and goals of our union as it is ours. We will not permit anyone to endanger our income or the stability we have attained.
To create a more resilient and cooperative organization, he continued, his administration will prioritize resolving internal disputes, promoting member welfare, protecting the rights of all union members, and improving communication throughout all zones.
