Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has come out to say that he is not a member to any political party in Nigeria; he further identified himself as a statesman of no party.
It was at Chief Onyema Ugochukwu’s 80th birthday celebration in Abuja where Obasanjo spoke a lot about the trust, loyalty and support, particularly his contribution during the 1999 presidential campaign.
Loyalty and service: The story of a servant leader
Then, Obasanjo specifically thanked Ugochukwu for being loyal and for sticking around during the time when political affiliations hindered friendly relations even during the election campaign in 1999.
He challenged love, unity and perseverance and also urged Ugochukwu to keep helping humanity and remain focused in changing Nigeria for the better.
Atiku and reflections
Other dignitaries present include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who in his speech commended Ugochukwu’s integrity saying Ugochukwu is a hard working and also a peace-loving Nigerian.
The celebrant, overwhelmed by the event, narrated incidences within his family and further promised loyalty to God and fellow human beings.
Speaking at the event, ex-president Obasanjo charged Nigerians to continue to remain positive while observing that the country is currently going through some challenging times and called for Nigerians to feel the love within one and other.
Two books were published in honor of Ugochukwu, in appreciation of the time he devoted to his mission of constructing the Niger Delta region.
