National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu has delivered a firm message to those obstructing President Bola Tinubu’s security agenda, warning that such actions will not be tolerated.
Addressing the Comptroller General of Customs Conference in Abuja, Ribadu reiterated the administration’s commitment to dismantling terrorist organizations, bandit groups, and other criminal threats to the country.
Strengthening Nigeria’s security landscape
According to The Nation, Ribadu outlined the government’s ongoing efforts to combat insecurity, with a marked increase in operations targeting terrorist cells and criminal factions. He revealed that hundreds of bandits are being neutralized daily, with many fleeing into Chad, which has prompted Chadian authorities to escalate their own military actions against these insurgents.
“We are resolute in securing this country and addressing its challenges head-on,” Ribadu declared, reinforcing the administration’s unwavering determination to restore order.
He also highlighted substantial security improvements within Nigeria, particularly in the Niger Delta, where conditions have drastically improved. This progress, he noted, has had a direct impact on the nation’s oil production, which has surged to 1.8 million barrels per day, signaling a recovery in the energy sector.
Economic reforms and currency stabilization
Beyond security, Ribadu urged Nigerians to remain patient as the government presses ahead with economic reforms designed to stabilize both the economy and the naira. A key part of this effort is restructuring the Central Bank to enhance the stability of the national currency and combat inflation.
Additionally, Ribadu commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its achievements, encouraging officers to aim higher as new growth opportunities become available within the service. The government, he suggested, is laying the groundwork for more opportunities and a more stable economic environment for the nation’s future.
The ongoing conference, which commenced on Tuesday, will conclude on Friday.
