IOM (International Organization for Migration) announced an additional $668,000 of Rapid Response Fund (RRF) allocation to meet looming humanitarian needs created by catastrophic flooding in Nigeria. The total amount allocated by the IOM in 2024 now exceeds $2.4 million.
Over 100,000 people are affected in Jigawa, Katsina and Bauchi States where the funding, as announced in a press statement by IOM Nigeria’s Chief of Mission ad interim, Paola Pace will help financially support localized humanitarian operations. Together with Relief Rescue Initiative, Safer World Foundation and Community Engagement and Social Development Initiative, the funds will deliver emergency shelter, clean water, sanitation facilities and multi purpose cash assistance to 228777 people.
“Thanks to the generous support of USAID’s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance, we are able to provide lifesaving assistance and support the recovery of communities affected by the floods”, it said.
Previous allocations/and coordinated efforts
In October, IOM provided $1.8 million to nine local and international non governmental organizations for flood responses. The second round of funding helps with immediate as well as long term needs.
IOM stressed that its actuons are conducted in close collaboration with the concerned national authorities, local authorities and humanitarian partners, for an effective response. The organization reconfirmed to rebuild resilience in flood affected communities.
