The Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Major General JO Ochai, says only a collective, whole-of-society approach to the current insecurity in Nigeria can solve it effectively.
Pointing out that the people from all walks of life have to chip in, even by giving security agencies critical information, he said.
The Academy’s Public Relations Officer, Major Mohammed Maidawa made this known in a statement issued on Wednesday.
Collective leadership is needed for insecurity
Delivering a lecture titled “Insecurity, Leadership, and Peace Building in Nigeria:” This, he also said, requires the active involvement of all Nigerians beyond ‘the role of the armed forces and security agencies in creating an enabling environment’.
‘These challenges can’t be solved by security agencies alone,’ he added. ‘The need for everybody including every citizen to come in and play their part, especially in giving timely and accurate information that can help tackle insecurity put them at risk, and particularly vulnerable.’
Celebrating Afe Babalola’s impact
Speaking during his lecture, Maj. Gen. Ochai lauded Emmanuel Aare Afe Babalola, founder of Afe Babalola University as great Nigeria for his investment in national development through efforts especially in education, healthcare, entrepreneurship and environmental sustainability.
Ochai concluded that Mr Babalola’s efforts have inspired innovations among students and staff, as well as progress in every sector.
Founded in 2009, the university has quickly become a well established place to study which has six colleges focused on programs in areas such as medicine, law and engineering as well as social sciences.
Security concerns interactive session
An interactive session after the lecture responded to major security concerns brought up by the participants. Discussions on the dynamics of leadership and peace-building were also part of the engagements involving students and staff as the university continued to preach discourse supported by informed thought on matters national.
Institutional partnerships
The institutional partnerships for ecological studies integration is to strengthen institutional partnerships.
Maj. Gen. Ochai made the presentation of a commemorative souvenir to Mr. Babalola in recognition of the collaboration between the NDA and Afe Babalola University.
