At a brief but symbolic ceremony in Ibadan, the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde officially presented the staff of office to the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade.
It was in fact the formal making of an Oba (Oba Owoade) into the revered onoliche Alaafin of Oyo.
Traditional rulers, government officials and enthusiastic indigenes of Oyo came to celebrate essence of continuance of the kingdom’s cultural heritage with the ceremony.
The Alaafin’s legacy upheld
Presenting the certificate and staff of office to Oba Owoade, Governor Makinde lauded Oba Owoade as a leader who can perpetuate the historical and also cultural relevance of the Oyo Kingdom.
The Alaafin of Oyo is more than a traditional ruler: he is a custodian of rich tradition and the history of the Oyo people.”
Makinde said he believes Oba Owoade will lead with wisdom, integrity and commitment to the unity and prosperity of the Oyo Kingdom.’
Development: Oba Owoade’s commitment
Oba Owoade said in his address that he sincerely and deeply thanked the people of Oyo that had placed their trust and support. He promised to devote himself to developing the country, and the welfare of its dwellers, and work throughout for unity and advancement.
The late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III was unseated by Oba Owoade, who inherits the seat which the late monarch left an indelible mark on the history of the Alaafin’s stool.
In addition, ascension of the new Alaafin is a symbol of the Continuity and Renewal in the Oyo Kingdom.
