Deputy Chief Whip Adewunmi Onanuga passed away, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives has sent condolences, calling her a pillar of support who would be much missed in the Green Chamber.
Speaker leads tributes for Adewunmi Onanuga after her passing
Onanuga, a member of the All Progressives Congress who represented Ogun State’s Sagamu/Ikenne Federal Constituency, passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness while serving her second term in the House. Her age was 59.
The Speaker described Onanuga’s passing as a “painful loss” and said he led the House in prayers and support during her sickness.
The Speaker commended Onanuga’s dedication to gender equality, women’s empowerment, and participation in politics and government in a statement released Thursday by Musa Krishi, his special assistant on media and publicity.
According to Punch, he emphasized her work as a principal officer in the 10th Assembly and as the chair of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Welfare in the 9th Assembly.
The statement said, “She was a smart woman, a seasoned politician, a creative lawmaker, and a trusted ally in legislative business.” Honorable Onanuga was tenacious, devoted, devoted, and patriotic.
