  • Jibrin says that unity, collective efforts for peaceful resolutions are important.

Dr. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, representing Kiru/Bebeji constituency in Kano, urged former Kano State Governors Rabiu Kwankwaso and Umar Ganduje to reconcile urgently.

On Thursday, Jibrin spoke during a radio program, saying the feud was a big blow to the state and that it’s time for well meaning Nigerians to lend hands to begin the process of reconciling two political leaders.

A shared legacy

Jibrin indicted both leaders, saying their political careers were remarkable.

Beginning from the Kano State Civil Service, Kwankwaso rose as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and then became a two term governor, Minister Defence, Senator, as one time presidential candidate.

On the contrary, Ganduje was a civil servant, FCT Director, Commissioner, deputy governor, two term governor, and now the chairman of ruling party, Jibrin said.

According to him, both leaders have been uniquely blessed and should not allow politics to divide them in any way for the good of Kano.

Call for reconciliation

A known supporter of the Kwankwasiyya movement, the namesake of the strongman, Jibrin also urged for an end to feud between the two leaders, saying that it hampered Kano’s progress.

“We owe it as fellow Muslims and Kano citizens to reconcile them.” ‘Enough of rehashing old wounds, this is not a time to reopen old wounds, this is a time for peace, unity and progress,’ he said.

He called for collective efforts to work together to ensure the reconciliation, such that Kwanwakso and Ganduje will celebrate together in moments of joy and in trying times will reach out to each other to help.

Working toward peace

But the lawmaker promised broader support as efforts already underway by his Government to mediate between the two leaders.

“I ask everyone who fights for peace to take part in this process.” We will all see Kwankwaso to Ganduje’s daughter’s wedding and Ganduje to Kwankwaso’s son’s wedding. ‘It’s not about political affiliation but about unity,’ he ended.
