The Nigeria Police Force has stated that, as of February 1, 2025, all car owners countrywide will be required to get Third-Party Insurance.
Nigeria Police to begin third-party insurance enforcement in 2025
According to a statement issued Friday by Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun gave the direction to ensure adherence to insurance requirements and boost road safety measures.
Adejobi stated, “The Nigeria Police Force reiterates the enforcement of the mandatory Third-Party Insurance, which will commence on Feb. 1, 2025, in accordance with the directive of the inspector-general of police.” “This program seeks to improve road safety and guarantee that car owners adhere to insurance regulations in order to safeguard both themselves and other people.”
Drivers who fail to get legal third-party insurance will face severe enforcement actions, including fines and penalties as required by law, the police said.
Officers empowered to conduct checks and penalize defaulters
The instruction gives officers the authority to carry out inspections and punish noncompliant individuals. It is recommended that drivers without valid insurance comply as soon as possible to avoid fines.
“The Nigeria Police Force is still dedicated to improving road safety and saving lives by enforcing traffic laws strictly,” Adejobi stated.
