PETROAN Awaits NNPCL Portal to Resume Warri Refinery Product Lifting

KEY POINTS

  • The marketing association PETROAN is waiting for NNPCL to reopen its portal so it can extract products from Warri Refinery.
  • The Association of Petroleum Product Dealers under the arms of IPMAN indicates that Dangote Refinery has become the favored choice for marketers instead of tank farms.
  • NNPCL states that reports of explosions remain false while indicating the upcoming completion of regular maintenance procedures.

The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) waits for Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to reopen its product lifting portal at Warri Refinery.

The 125,000 barrels per day (bpd) petroleum refinery recommenced operation when it underwent rehabilitation several years ago before maintenance forced another shutdown.

The PETROAN association stands ready to retrieve its products as soon as the NNPCL provides its product lifting portal access according to interview with President Dr. Billy Gillis-Harris.

Marketers shift to dangote refinery

Alhaji Maigandi Garima of IPMAN National President told the media that numerous marketers currently source petroleum products from Dangote Refinery through MRS depots located in Warri and Calabar.

The majority of IPMAN members currently obtain petroleum products from the Dangote Refinery with MRS as their distribution partner yet tank farm owners remain excluded. The companies that have not finalized their MRS registration continue to purchase petroleum from depot suppliers only, according to his statements.

The authorization from NNPCL for Port Harcourt Refinery lifting operations will determine when weeklong port shipments start.

The NNPCL has told the public that the Warri Refinery never experienced such an incident.
The Chief Communications Officer of NNPCL Mr. Olufemi Soneye called reports about a Warri Refinery explosion completely untrue.

According to the Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company Area One’s operations stopped deliberately on January 25th of 2025 for essential equipment remediation to maintain production streams of both Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and Kerosene.

AGO loading processes remained operational at a rate of eight trucks each day throughout the maintenance period and will resume all activities within forthcoming days.

The refinery work in progress enables NNPCL to maintain continuous fuel distribution to stakeholders.
