Key Points

  • The government of Lagos State undertakes a redesign of the Oshodi Transport Interchange to integrate with the Rail Mass Transit infrastructure.
  • Analysts will examine both the scheme design of OTI and its operational performance to boost its efficiency.
  • The new initiative focuses on controlling street hawking activities because it aims to create safer transportation conditions for commuters.

The Lagos State Government recently declared its program to redesign the Oshodi Transport Interchange (OTI) before implementing Rail Mass Transit projects such as the Red Line rail project connecting to the Blue Line.

Through a statement issued on Sunday Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi as the Commissioner for Transportation provided this information.

The reconstruction initiative of Oshodi Transport Interchange (OTI) addresses operational challenges while aiming to achieve operational efficiency benefits.

Oshodi Transport Interchange requires design and operational adjustments

As stated by Osiyemi the new design of OTI represents an initiative to manage the existing operational issues at the interchange.

The Ministry of Transportation will work with applicable stakeholders to examine OTI’s present state along with developing modifications which would boost operational effectiveness of the interchange.

Collaborative effort for improved accessibility and safety

The ministry team will perform direct observations of the Oshodi Transport Interchange facilities to decide properly how it should be operated. Osiyemi recommended working together with Federal Roads Maintenance Agency to maintain the interchange roads in a timely fashion.

Street hawking activities in the area will become a target for a new initiative because they present safety risks to pedestrians and commuters. The plan will depend on police agencies for regulation enforcement and interchange public safety management.
