Blessing and Sunday Emebo were detained by the Abia State Police Command for operating an unlicensed motherless babies’ home.

Police arrest couple for unregistered motherless babies’ home

Twelve children were taken from their custody when police made the arrest at their Aba residence on Ikot Ekpene Road.

In a statement made public on Monday, the Command’s spokesperson, Maureen Chinaka, revealed the arrest.

According to Chinaka, detectives arrested the pair on May 19 at approximately 11:45 a.m. based on reliable information.

The operation was carried out at the couple’s home, which the police determined was being utilized as an illegal facility for minors.

The twelve kids, who ranged in age from two months to fourteen years, were from different villages in the Arochukwu Local Government Area.

According to Chinaka, nine youngsters, including Ojiugo Caleb, 14, and Christian Okoro, 12, were discovered with the couple.

Samuel Okoro, 13, Clinton Nkemakolam, 9, Godwin Emmanuel, 10, and younger kids were also among the males.

Investigation ongoing as authorities hand over children to state ministry

According to the Punch, the girls in custody were Anointing Okoro, 7, Chinaza Okoro, 9, and Ogechi Nkemakolam, 9.

Chinaka stated that the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs has been tasked by the authorities with caring for the youngsters.

While questioning the couple at the State CID in Umuahia at the moment, she verified that police are looking into the situation.

After police have finished their investigation into the illegal home operation, the accused will be charged in court.

Chinaka advised parents to exercise caution and refrain from leaving their kids with strangers.

She urged everyone to notify law enforcement right once if they suspect someone of holding children under their care.
