Nigeria’s main student body has welcomed President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Ms. Derinsola Abiola as Director-General of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre, calling it a well-matched decision.

In a statement signed by National Public Relations Officer Adeyemi Samson Ajasa, the National Association of Nigerian Students described Abiola daughter of the late Chief MKO Abiola as “a round peg in a round hole.”

Track record in youth development

Before her promotion, Abiola served as Senior Special Assistant on Citizenship and Leadership, a role in which NANS said she displayed “unwavering focus, competence, and dedication” to national development and youth empowerment. Her work, the group also added, reflected a strong commitment to building responsible citizenship among Nigerian youth.

NANS also said the new role provides a broader platform for Abiola to expand her impact and pledged its support for initiatives aimed at youth leadership, national unity, and civic responsibility.
