The Lagos State Police Command has moved swiftly after a viral video showed officers harassing a motorist on a busy Lagos road. Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh ordered the detention of the personnel involved and promised disciplinary action.

The footage, widely shared online, captured an officer attempting to pull off a driver’s glasses suspected of having a hidden camera before another officer struck the man. Public outrage over the incident pushed the command into immediate response.

Spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin said on X that the commissioner ordered an orderly room trial for the implicated officers. The internal proceedings, he added, will follow due process but be conducted quickly and transparently.

New tactical squad replaces dissolved unit

In a rare move, Jimoh also announced the dissolution of the tactical squad caught in the controversy. A new team has been set up, he said, made up of officers trained to uphold international policing standards.

Finally the commissioner stressed that the revamped unit will adopt a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, emphasizing respect for human rights and public trust. Residents were also urged to report misconduct and continue cooperating with law enforcement.
