KEY POINTS

  • Nigerian passport fees doubled within one year.
  • Diaspora passport charges remain the same.
  • Immigration cites quality and service delivery needs.

The Nigeria Immigration Service will increase the cost of standard passports starting September 1, 2025, marking the second hike in just over a year.

In a statement issued Thursday, the service’s spokesperson ACI AS Akinlabi said the new rates will apply only to applications made inside Nigeria, while fees for citizens abroad remain unchanged.

Cost of 32-page booklet jumps to N100,000

Under the new pricing structure, a 32-page passport with five-year validity will cost N100,000, while the 64-page, 10-year booklet will be N200,000. Previously, those booklets cost N50,000 and N100,000 respectively following the 2024 increase approved by the federal government.

Diaspora Nigerian passport fees remain unchanged abroad

Nigerians living overseas will still pay $150 for the 32-page, five-year passport and $230 for the 64-page, 10-year version, according to the statement.

The Immigration Service said the review was necessary to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian passport, while ensuring accessibility for citizens. Officials added that the adjustment would also sustain service delivery and operational standards.

Last year’s hike, which took effect September 1, 2024, raised Nigerian passport fees by more than 40 percent. The latest revision doubles those charges within a year, underscoring ongoing fiscal pressures on government services.
