Rivers State Governor Siminialayi Fubara returned to office on Thursday, marking the end of a six-month emergency rule imposed by President Bola Tinubu in March.
Fubara, who arrived in Port Harcourt earlier in the day, said he would address citizens in a statewide broadcast at 6 p.m., promising to focus on unity and the needs of the state.
Fubara stake in Rivers governance renewed
The governor landed at Port Harcourt International Airport around 11:40 a.m. alongside his wife, deputy Ngozi Nma Odu, and chief of staff Edison Ehie. He was welcomed by former commissioners, local government chairmen, and political allies.
Supporters lined up at the airport to greet him, underscoring his renewed influence in state politics.
Governor thanks citizens for warm reception
Speaking at the Government House, Fubara thanked residents for their support and said the turnout at his arrival humbled him.
“It shows love, confidence and solidarity,” he said. “This is not just a celebration but a reactivation of the bond between this government and the people of Rivers State.”
Call for unity after months of uncertainty
Fubara assured the public that his administration would deliver policies that reflected their trust. He pledged to sustain programs that “made you people love us,” while urging reconciliation after months of political turbulence.
“I want to thank everybody and to say that we love you, but God loves you more,” he added.
