Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and the current Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu State, has been nominated by President Bola Tinubu to be confirmed as a federal minister by the Senate.

Senate to review Kingsley Udeh nomination soon

During Tuesday’s plenary session in Abuja, Senate President Godswill Akpabio read a letter announcing Tinubu’s candidacy. Tinubu explained in the letter that Udeh’s appointment was a component of his administration’s resolve to ensure continuity in important ministries and improve governance.

It was with great pleasure that the letter sent Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, to the Senate for confirmation as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “Please accept the assurances of my highest regards, Mr. Senate President and distinguished senators, even though I hope this request will receive the Senate’s customary prompt consideration.”

According with The Guardian, Akpabio paved the way for Udeh’s vetting and potential confirmation by sending the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for prompt consideration after the letter was read.

Tinubu’s push strengthens Kingsley Udeh nomination

Following the departure of Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Udeh was nominated. Nnaji resigned last month due to concerns regarding the veracity of his academic documents, including his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate and a diploma allegedly received from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

As the Attorney-General of Enugu State since 2023, Udeh is a well-respected lawyer who has been actively involved in improving the state’s judicial system and advising the government on constitutional issues. If accepted, his nomination will be his first appointment to the federal cabinet.

Since assuming office in May 2023, Tinubu has made adjustments to his ministerial team, including redeployments, resignations, and attempts to appoint those deemed qualified to lead his reform agenda to key positions. According to experts, Udeh’s appointment represents an effort to strengthen the administration’s federal legal and governance capabilities.
