The Ogun State Police Command reported that its officers thwarted an attempted robbery in Sagamu on Wednesday, following a prompt response from operatives of the Sakura Division. The event, which transpired in the early morning hours, resulted in the retrieval of the suspects’ operative vehicle and various things presumed to have been designated for use in the assault.
Swift police response in Sagamu
The command’s spokeswoman, CSP Omolola Odutola, stated to journalists that officers responded to a distress call received at approximately 1:45 a.m. from the chairman of the Okearedi Community Development Committee in Araromi, adjacent to the Sagamu–Ijebu Ode Expressway. She reported that approximately five armed assailants attempted to infiltrate a residence in the vicinity prior to the police being notified.
Odutola stated that the patrol team promptly responded, orchestrating a swift intervention that thwarted the heist. “Upon observing the patrol vehicle, the suspects dispersed in various directions,” she stated. A vigorous chase ensued, culminating in the recovery of the offenders’ black Lexus GS 350, bearing registration number OGUN TTD 452 TT, at the community entrance.
Odutola stated that a search of the vehicle revealed a cache of fireworks, referred to as knockouts, which the suspects might have intended to employ as a diversion during the operation.

Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo praised the officers for their prompt response and professionalism, stating that the operation exemplifies the command’s enhanced security strategy in anticipation of the year-end time. He observed that law enforcement has enhanced patrols at certain flashpoints throughout Ogun State to avert comparable occurrences.
“The command is dedicated to maintaining police visibility and proactive engagement,” Ogunlowo stated. He implored homeowners to maintain vigilance, especially while going home at night, and recommended that well-lit surroundings can deter criminal behavior.
