Gov. Nasir Idris is demanding answers after military personnel pulled out of a Kebbi school less than an hour before bandits abducted students. He raised the alarm while receiving Nigeria Labour Congress President Joe Ajaero during a condolence visit in Birnin Kebbi.

Idris said troops earlier deployed to Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, withdrew at 3 a.m. The abduction happened at 3:45 a.m., intensifying concerns over the security withdrawal in Kebbi.

Calls grow over security withdrawal in Kebbi

The governor said intelligence had warned of an imminent attack, he convened a security meeting based on that alert, and also said agencies promised a full deployment.But Idris said he wants clarity on who ordered the pullout, he asked the military to identify the officer responsible, he affirmed federal and state efforts to rescue the girls.

He thanked President Tinubu for dispatching Vice President Shettima, noted that Defence Minister Bello Matawalle relocated to Kebbi, and said clerics mobilised to intensify prayers.

Idris said enemies were working against national stability.He urged citizens to pray for calm and restoration, he praised Ajaero for showing solidarity in crisis.

Ajaero also said the attack was deeply troubling, he linked it to the state’s recent development gains, he warned against attempts to derail Idris’ progress. The labour chief said the pattern looked suspicious. He urged the governor to remain steadfast, he promised labour support through policy reviews.

Ajaero said school and border security needed attention, he vowed to push national reforms on safety, he said unity was needed to confront insecurity.
