On Monday, Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, gave the State House of Assembly the N891.99 billion Oyo State 2026 budget proposal. The presentation happened in the Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan.

The “Budget of Economic Expansion” sets aside N389.34 billion for ongoing costs and N502.65 billion for major projects. Infrastructure (N210.02 billion), education (N155.21 billion), and health (N70.81 billion) get the most money. Agriculture gets N19.99 billion, and other projects that include more than one industry get N435.9 billion.

Makinde talked about important projects that are expected to boost the economy, such as programs focused on the AfCFTA, the Oluyole Free Trade Zone, Special Agricultural Zones, dry and logistics ports, improvements to Ladoke Akintola Airport, and the 110-kilometer Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road that connects important business areas.

The governor also said that Oyo State would celebrate its 50th anniversary in February 2026 with the theme “Renewal: A Celebration of Where We Have Come From and Where We Are Going.” This showed how important the state’s people are.

Speaker Debo Ogundoyin said that the budget was ambitious, focused on people, and in line with the state’s ambitions for growth. He praised the various meetings that took place in all seven geopolitical zones. These meetings made sure that the people who had a stake in the budget had their say.

Involving stakeholders in budget planning makes it more inclusive

Ogundoyin also commented on what the 10th Assembly had done as overseer, like adopting more than 500 resolutions, approving 32 major initiatives, and going over 110 committee reports. He further said the Assembly’s Post-Legislative Scrutiny Unit monitors how authorities spend the budget to ensure fairness and transparency.

The 2026 budget’s goals are to speed up growth, improve people’s skills, and let Oyo State’s economy grow in a way that is good for the environment.
