  • International attention intensifies on Nigeria’s northern security crisis.

French President Emmanuel Macron has pledged closer cooperation with Nigeria as the country grapples with growing insecurity, particularly in the northern region, where terrorist attacks have surged.

In a message posted on X on Sunday, Macron said he had spoken with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasizing France’s commitment to support Nigeria in addressing widespread violence. The French leader also encouraged the international community to take a more active role, warning that the response to the crisis cannot remain passive.

Macron calls for global action

“I spoke with President Tinubu of Nigeria, @officialABAT. I conveyed France’s solidarity in the face of the various security challenges, particularly the terrorist threat in the North. At his request, we will strengthen our partnership with the authorities and our support for the affected populations. We call on all our partners to step up their engagement. No one can remain a spectator,” Macron wrote.

The French president’s comments coincide with growing international attention on Nigeria’s security challenges, which have seen repeated claims of attacks on Christian communities across the country.

Trump escalates rhetoric on Nigerian violence

According to Vanguard, U.S. President Donald Trump has amplified these concerns, posting multiple messages alleging that violence against Christians in Nigeria has worsened. On social media, he claimed that the Nigerian government has failed to address killings and warned of potential U.S. military action.

“If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities,” Trump wrote.

He continued, “I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!”

The combination of Macron’s diplomatic engagement and Trump’s warnings highlights the heightened international focus on Nigeria’s ongoing security crisis. French officials signaled that Macron’s administration would increase support for vulnerable communities affected by violence and seek closer collaboration with Nigerian authorities.
