Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubari has expressed condolences to Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri following the death of his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, describing the loss as profound and far-reaching.
In a statement personally signed and released Wednesday in Port Harcourt, Fubari said Ewhrudjakpo’s passing was not only a tragedy for Bayelsa State but also a painful loss for Rivers and the wider Niger Delta. He described the late deputy governor as a public servant of rare distinction whose career was marked by integrity, intellect and humility.
According to Fubari, the news of Ewhrudjakpo’s death resonated deeply across state boundaries, leaving leaders and citizens alike in mourning alongside the people of Bayelsa.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Rivers State, I extend our deepest condolences to you, my brother Governor Douye Diri, and to the entire people of Bayelsa State over the sudden passing of your Deputy Governor,” Fubari said.
He described Ewhrudjakpo as a stabilising force within the Bayelsa administration, noting that he navigated the demands of governance with uncommon intellectual depth and a calm, self-effacing disposition. Beyond his political role, Fubari said Ewhrudjakpo embodied a sense of duty that earned him respect across party and state lines.
“His transition represents a monumental loss that echoes far beyond the walls of Government House,” the statement said, adding that the vacuum left behind reflects the scale of his impact in public life.

Fubari also extended prayers to Ewhrudjakpo’s family, describing him as a devoted pillar at home and a tireless advocate for progress in public office. He urged Governor Diri to find strength to lead Bayelsa through what he called a dark and difficult moment.
Ewhrudjakpo reportedly collapsed at the Government House in Yenagoa and died on Thursday. His death was later confirmed by the Peoples Democratic Party in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong.
The party said its National Working Committee and members nationwide were in profound grief, particularly in Bayelsa State, where Ewhrudjakpo played a key role in governance and party affairs.
As tributes continue to pour in, political leaders across the region have described his passing as a sobering reminder of the fragility of life and the enduring value of service driven by principle and commitment.
