  • Joshua suffered minor injuries as family members raised concerns about road safety and emergency response.

Janazah prayers were held Sunday at the London Central Mosque for Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, close friends of British boxing star Anthony Joshua who were killed in a road crash in southwestern Nigeria.

The prayers drew a large and diverse crowd, including members of the Nigerian and British communities, friends, relatives, and well wishers who came to honour the two men and support their families.

The atmosphere inside the mosque was solemn, marked by quiet reflection and shared grief over lives cut short.

Fatal crash on Ogun highway

Ghami and Ayodele died on Monday, December 29, 2025, following a traffic accident in Makun, Ogun State, along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway.

Eyewitness accounts indicated that the sport utility vehicle carrying Joshua and his companions collided with a stationary truck on the highway. The impact was fatal for Ghami and Ayodele, who were pronounced dead at the scene.

Joshua sustained what his family described as minor injuries. He was treated and later discharged, according to people familiar with the incident.

Adedamola Joshua, an uncle of the boxer, said the family was thrown into shock by the incident and struggled to process the loss of two people who were very close to Joshua.

He explained that the family did not learn about the crash through social media, but rather through a phone call that came hours after the accident occurred. He said the delay raised troubling questions about emergency response and the behavior of bystanders at accident scenes.

The uncle added that the tragedy was particularly painful because Joshua had arrived in Nigeria only hours earlier and was on his way to Sagamu to spend time with relatives.
