The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service collected 302.9 billion naira in revenue in October, up 7.13% from 282.79 billion naira in September, Vanguard reported, citing a statement from the command.
Isah Sulaiman, the command’s spokesperson, said the result reflected sustained efforts to boost revenue while facilitating legitimate trade.
Apapa Customs credits its new controller
The statement credited Comptroller Murtala Mu’azu, who took charge of Apapa Customs on Sept. 29 with a pledge to engage stakeholders, improve efficiency and deliver better service.
Since then, Mu’azu has prioritized the service’s policy themes of consolidation, collaboration and innovation, with a focus on the operational problems facing port users, the statement said.
Last month, the command held a stakeholder meeting with importers, exporters, licensed customs agents, shipping companies and terminal operators. Together, they discussed delays in demand notices, cargo clearance bottlenecks and other operational challenges.
Streamlining port processes
Beyond that meeting, Mu’azu has also paid courtesy visits to key partners in the port community to strengthen relationships and create a better business environment for traders.
Meanwhile, the command has stepped up reviews of transire processing. The goal is to cut unnecessary red tape, improve coordination between departments and shorten processing times without weakening compliance and control measures.
