Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has signed into law a revised appropriation bill totaling N485.63 billion($290.62 million), signaling his administration’s intent to drive transformative governance.
The budget, passed by the Edo State House of Assembly, designates N202.65 billion ($121.1 million) for recurrent expenditures and N282.99 billion ($169 million) for capital projects, according to a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua.
Assembly’s swift approval reinforces governance partnership
Governor Okpebholo lauded the Assembly for its swift approval of the budget, describing it as a critical step toward repositioning Edo State for growth. “Your cooperation and speedy passage of this Bill underscore your commitment to the progress of our state,” he remarked during the signing ceremony. “With this shared vision, Edo is poised for remarkable development driven by a dedicated team.”
The ceremony, according to Punch, was held at the Executive Council Chamber and was attended by key stakeholders including the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Honourable Blessing Agbebaku, and other lawmakers. Agbebaku reaffirmed the legislature’s support for the administration’s agenda and stressed the importance of seamless governance.

“The 8th Assembly prioritized this appropriation law to ensure the administration begins its projects without delay,” he stated. “Government is a continuum, and our collaboration is geared towards delivering sustained development for the people of Edo State.”
The bill, initially presented in November 13, 2024, underwent accelerated deliberations, reflecting a strong partnership between the executive and legislative branches. The revised budget sets the stage for Okpebholo’s administration to implement its development blueprint, with a focus on infrastructure and public service enhancements.
