The Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), located in Ijagun, Ogun State, is set to host its 16th convocation ceremony, which will celebrate the graduation of 4,140 students, including 27 First Class graduates.

Speaking during a press briefing on Friday, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wole Banjo, provided an overview of the ceremony, which begins a series of activities commemorating the academic milestone. He highlighted that the event would also mark a historic achievement for the institution as it graduates its first set of doctorate degree holders.
Among these doctoral graduates is 85-year-old retired military colonel Pa Bolaji Onafowokan, whose remarkable journey exemplifies determination and a lifelong commitment to education.
Prof. Banjo praised Onafowokan’s perseverance, describing him as an inspiring figure for both the academic community and society at large.
According to punch, out of the 401 postgraduate students being honored, 67 will be awarded doctoral degrees, 279 will receive master’s degrees, and 55 will earn postgraduate diplomas in education and other disciplines. Reflecting on the uniqueness of this year’s convocation, Banjo stated, “This 16th convocation is special to us as it marks the graduation of our first set of PhD holders.
Among them is 85-year-old retired Colonel Bolaji Onafowokan, who serves as a testament to determination and lifelong learning.”
Governor to commission power plant, other campus projects at event
In addition to celebrating academic accomplishments, the event will serve as an opportunity to showcase TASUED’s infrastructural advancements. Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun is expected to commission several key projects during the ceremony, including the inauguration of a power plant designed to address the university’s long-standing electricity challenges.
Prof. Banjo noted that the power plant is a transformative step for the institution, ensuring consistent electricity to enhance academic and administrative activities.
He also expressed gratitude to Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and Ogun State Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alamutu for deploying special patrol teams to improve security within the university and its host communities.
The convocation ceremony will also feature a lecture titled “From Classroom to Cloud: Leveraging Digital Literacy for National Development.”
The lecture will be delivered by the Minister of Communication, Innovations, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, who is expected to share insights on how digital literacy can drive sustainable progress in education and national development.
The 16th convocation of TASUED promises to be a landmark event, combining academic excellence, institutional growth, and thought leadership on national development.
