The National Examinations Council (NECO) has added more schools in Niger Republic and Equatorial Guinea to the list candidates of its international footprint, where international certification in its external Senior School Certificate Exam (SSCE) and also Basic Education Certificate Exam (BECE) are done.
NECO expands global reach with new accreditations
NECO’s Acting Director of Public Relations Azeez Sanni confirmed the accreditation in a statement on Saturday.
According to NECO, the move is part of its strategy to make its examinations available for Nigerian students who are outside the country, particularly in Francophone countries.
Sanni also said the accreditation team inspected classrooms, libraries and laboratories, among other facilities to ensure their suitability for NECO examinations.
New milestone: first external centre in republic of Niger
NECO SSCE External located in Diffa, Niger Republic, now becomes the first NECO SSCE External Centre outside Nigeria.
With this initiative students in Benin Republic, Equatorial Guinea and others in Togo, Cote d’Ivoire and Saudi Arabia should be able to sit NECO examination.
Access to quality education was a major focus of NECO as it urged Nigerians living abroad to also leverage the opportunity to provide quality education for their wards.
Rigorous standards were met by the schools including adequate classrooms, examination halls and laboratory facilities. NECO is willing to further encourage international collaboration to help Nigerian students who are in diaspora.
