  • The initiative aligns with prior early payments, demonstrating the government’s commitment to workers’ welfare during festive periods.
  • Timely salary disbursements aim to boost local economic activity, ensuring workers can enjoy the Christmas and New Year holidays stress-free.

Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has approved the early payment of December salaries for state civil servants and pensioners, ensuring timely financial support ahead of the festive season.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Commissioner for Information Kingsley Fanwo announced that salaries were disbursed on December 14, 2024. The decision is part of the administration’s commitment to prioritizing workers’ welfare, particularly during significant holiday periods.

“This early payment enables civil servants to plan and enjoy their Christmas and New Year holidays after a year of hard work,” Fanwo said. He added that the initiative would also assist those intending to travel for the holidays, eliminating the uncertainty of late salary disbursements.

Similar precedents set during holidays

Fanwo highlighted that this gesture mirrors similar actions during the Sallah celebrations earlier in the year when salaries were paid ahead of schedule. These initiatives underscore the government’s dedication to supporting its workforce during critical times.

“The Kogi State Government recognizes the contributions of civil servants to our development policies and projects. This early payment ensures they can celebrate the yuletide season with their families in comfort and joy,” Fanwo added.

Commitment to workers’ welfare

Governor Ododo’s administration has maintained a consistent focus on improving workers’ conditions. Early salary payments reflect his broader strategy to reward hard work and dedication, fostering a motivated workforce aligned with the state’s development objectives.

“The governor remains committed to prioritizing the welfare of civil servants as a central pillar of his administration,” Fanwo said.

Economic impact

This proactive move is expected to boost local economic activities, as the early disbursement of salaries allows workers and pensioners to prepare for the holidays. Retailers and service providers in Kogi State may also benefit from increased consumer spending during this period.

With this approval, Kogi State continues to set an example of responsible governance, emphasizing timely compensation as a means of strengthening trust and morale among public servants. The state government has reiterated its pledge to uphold such measures in the coming years to sustain a productive and satisfied workforce.

Civil servants and pensioners in Kogi have welcomed the initiative, viewing it as a reflection of the administration’s commitment to fostering a supportive and responsive government.
