At the Ogba Magistrate Court on Thursday, a teacher who is suspected of physically abusing a three-year-old student appeared before Magistrate M.O. Kusanu.
Teacher pleads not guilty in viral child abuse case
After a video went viral showing Stella Nwadigo, a teacher at Christ-Mitots International School in Ikorodu, Lagos, repeatedly slapping the child, identified as Abayomi Michael, she was taken into custody. She entered a not guilty plea to the accusations.
In a post on X.com, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency verified the development.
All parties involved in the ongoing, well publicized child abuse case showed up at the Ogba Magistrate Court today, January 9, 2024. Magistrate M.O. Kusanu was given the case, according to the statement.
Court sets bail at ₦200,000 with conditions
Nwadigo’s defense attorney requested bail after two charges were read to her. With two substantiated sureties, the court set bail at ₦200,000.
“The case is adjourned to January 18, 2024 for trial, and the suspect has been remanded in a correctional facility,” the agency continued.
As stated by Punch, public indignation and demands for justice were triggered by the incident, which was caught on camera as Nwadigo tried to teach Abayomi how to write the number six. Nwadigo has been suspended by the school administration, and the child was reportedly admitted to the hospital after the attack.  Â
